ORAN PARK RACEWAY - THE FINAL GOODBYE

A huge field of 32 drivers converged at Oran Park Raceway (Narellan, NSW) last weekend to farewell the circuit with the running of the sixth and final round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship and proceedings were dominated by Leigh Burges.

With the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship already in the bag, Burges, who drove the #33 Spirit WL08 for the Anglo Australian Motorsport team, scored another clean sweep of the weekend by taking pole position on Saturday morning and then comfortably winning all three races.

Aside from the brilliant form of Burges over the weekend two of the most impressive results came via Alan Price and Derryn Harrison. Both drivers achieved their career best results and were rapt with how their weekends ended up. Price finished second in all three races, while Harrison wrapped up his weekend with a third place finish in the final race, after finishing sixth and fifth in race one and two. This was without a doubt his best ever result since stepping into Formula Ford five years ago........... Read full release

BURGES FAREWELLS NSW CHAMPIONSHIP AND ORAN PARK IN WINNING STYLE

There was only one objective for Leigh Burges heading into last weekend's sixth and final round of the 2009 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship at Oran Park Raceway and that was to win it was exactly what he managed to do.

With his fate in the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship sealed at the previous round, Burges was aiming to finish the year in the way he started - with a victory and he also wanted to farewell Oran Park Raceway in winning fashion too as it was the last ever race meeting at the circuit before it closes forever at the end of this year ............Read the full release

FORMULA FORDS FAREWELL ORAN PARK RACEWAY THIS WEEKEND

For 40 years the Formula Ford category has enjoyed a rich history with Oran Park Raceway (Narellan, NSW) and this weekend (October 31 and November 1) they will farewell the circuit forever with the running of the sixth and final round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship.

In each of the 40 years of Formula Ford existence they have either held an Australian or state level event around the technical 2.62km circuit and that is something the category is proud of.

"Formula Ford and Oran Park Raceway go hand in hand as over the years you can think back to some classic races and a lot of them have taken place at Oran Park," said Jeff Senior from the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Association. "You only have to look over the entry list for the weekend to see what Oran Park means to the drivers. There are a few of them that are bringing out their cars for the first time in 10 years just so that they can compete at Oran Park one last time." .......... Read Full Release

NSW FORMULA FORD 1600 CHAMPIONSHIP SEALED FOR BURGES

With one round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship remaining, Anglo Australian Motorsport team driver Leigh Burges over the weekend at Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway clinched his fourth round victory of the year during the fifth and penultimate round and in the process wrap up the NSW Championship.

In each of his round wins during this year's NSW Championship Burges, driving the #33 Anglo Australian Motorsport Comtec Spirit K08, has managed to come away with a clean sweep of each of the three races and last weekend at Wakefield Park that trend continued. Despite missing out on pole position by qualifying second, Burges was able to continue on with his winning form by taking ou all three races and that extended his winning tally to 12 (from a total of 15 races). ......................... BURGES WRAPS UP NSW FORMULA FORD 1600 CHAMPIONSHIP, WHILE ROOKIE SHINES

It was a fitting way for Leigh Burges to clinch the NSW formula Ford 1600 Championship, as he wrapped up the 2009 Title during last weekend's fifth and penultimate round at Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway. While Burges wrapped up the NSW Championship with onw round remaining, it was rookie Richie Goddard that got everyone's attention after making a stunning debut.

Burges took out his fourth NSW Championship round victory of the year and did so in the best possible style by winning three from three races over the course of the weekend. Yet another dominating performance resulted in the Anglo Australian Motorsport driver wrapping up the NSW Championship as he now carries an unassailable lead heading into the final round.

Apart from Burges taking out the Championship it was fellow Anglo Australian Motorsport driver Richard Goddard who showed that he has the makings of a future NSW Champion. At the age of only 17, and with no prior racing experience and only six testing days with the Anglo Australian Motorsport team to fall back on, Goddard finished the weekend with a second overall behind Burges ......... NSW FORMULA FORD 1600 CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS TO ACTION

After a short hiatus, the 2009 Formula Ford 1600 Championship resumes with the running of the fifth and penultimate round this weekend (September 12 and 13) at Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway.

Current NSW Championship leader Leigh Burges has the opportunity to wrap up this year's title and that is something that he has on his to do list heading into this weekend's contest around the 2.2km Wakefield Park circuit.

Burges didn't have the best of luck when he last visited Wakefield Park earlier this year for the second round of the NSW Championship. As a result Burges momentarily lost the lead of the NSW Championship after that weekend but he quickly regained it at the following round............Read Full Release

BURGES WINS AGAIN, AS WESTERN AUSTRALIAN VISITORS IMPRESS

The inclusion of six Western Australian based competitors certainly spiced up the action during last weekend's fourth round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship at Eastern Creek Raceway but the victory honours still managed to go the way of current championship leader Leigh Burges.

Not only did Burges extend his round victory tally to three and also his race win tally to nine, he also built up a comfortable margin in the NSW championship point standing in what is his biggest points' gap of the year.

Apart from Burges' dominance throughout the weekend, which resulted in him topping the time sheets in qualifying and then winning all three races, he was kept honest by Western Australian driver, Rhys McNally. After qualifying third, the Fastlane Racing driver recorded second places behind Burges in all three races. In fact, during the second race on Sunday morning McNally traded the lead on a number of occasions with Burges before the latter was able to finally pull away and score the win.

One of the other Western Australian visitors to give the NSW Championship regulars a real shakeup was Ben-Lee D'Limi. D'Limi qualified towards the bottom of the top 10 in eighth but showed great speed as he became more accustomed to the daunting and fast flowing Eastern Creek Raceway circuit to finish fifth in the opening race and then an impressive third in the second race. The weekend for D'Limi ended in disappointment when he failed to finish the third and final race due to spinning off the circuit in turn one on the second lap............

BURGES EXTENDS WINNING WAYS and NSW CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

Consolidation was the objective for Leigh Burges heading into the fourth round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship last weekend at Eastern Creek Raceway and he managed to achieve that in the best possible fashion.

For the third occasion this year, the Anglo Australian Motorsport team driver came away with a clean sweep of the round that resulted in him taking out qualifying and then driving to three convincing race wins........  Read Full Release

IT'S EITHER MAKE OR BREAK THIS WEEKEND IN NSW FORMULA FORD 1600 CHAMPIONSHIP

With Leigh Burges holding down a slender lead after three rounds of the 2009 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship, the fourth round is to be fought out this weekend (July 4 & 5) at Sydney's Eastern Creek Raceway.

Although the NSW Championship is only half run, the drivers' minds are focused on the end of year overall title and the ultimate prize of winning a V8 Supercar test drive with the Sydney based Sieders Racing team.

In what will be the NSW Championship's second appearance of the year at the Eastern Creek Raceway circuit, Burges can certainly head into the round with plenty of confidence after he dominated the opening round in April at the circuit. Burges was untouchable during the opening round where he qualified on pole position and took out three comprehensive race wins. If Burges can repeat his opening round result this weekend then it would see him consolidate his lead in the NSW Championship point standings and make it even harded for his rivals to peg him back ........... A MIXTURE OF THE OLD AND THE NEW AT ORAN PARK RACEWAY IN NSW FORMULA FORD 1600 CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE

There was a bit of everything during the third round of the 2009 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship last weekend at Oran Park Raceway (Narellan, NSW) with Leigh Burges and Garry Watson fighting it out for the winning honours.

At the completion of the weekend it was Burges that managed to come out on top and his clean sweep of qualifying and all three races rewarded him with the NSW Championship lead. However, despite Burges winning in all of his starts he was certainly kept honest by Garry Watson, who was driving in the Historic class but was actually up there contending for the outright lead, and he ended up finishing in second place for the round aboard a car that was first run way back in 1971 and built by David Mawer from Mawer Engineering.

Tough weather conditions, a mixture of wet, greasy and dry conditions around the 2.62km circuit, played their part over the weekend. In the end the cream rose to the top and consequently Burges re-claimed his outright lead in the NSW Championship point standings over arch rival and previous joint championship leader, Daniel Lewis .........Read Full Release

BURGES TAKES BACK CONTROL OF NSW FORMULA FORD 1600 CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

After momentarily losing command of the 2009 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship, Leigh Burges over the weekend at Oran Park Raceway during the third round managed to take back the lead by scoring his second clean sweep of the year.

There was simply no stopping Burges throughout the third round of the NSW Championship as the Anglo Australian Motorsport team driver dominated qualifying anf all three races driving the #33 Spirit WL08.

Burges was thrilled to be able to duplicate his opening round performance, after a tough run during the second round in April at Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway where he finished fourth overall and consequently lost his lead in the points standings, and also take back the lead in the NSW Championship points standings in the best possible fashion ...........

NSW FORMULA FORD 1600 CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS TO ORAN PARK RACEWAY THIS WEEKEND

Oran Park Raceway, near Narellan in Western Sydney, shares a rich history with Formula Ford and this weekend (May 30 and 31), when the third round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship is fought out, it will more than likely mark the second last appearance of Formula Ford at the circuit ever.

Up until last year, the Australian Formula Ford Championship has held a round of their championship at the Oran Park Raceway circuit every year for over 20 years and the circuit has featured prominently with the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship for the same amount of time as well.

When the drivers line up for the third round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship this weekend, it will be a special occasion; and the circuit has certainly had plenty of memorable moments. One of the best races ever seen in the NSW Championship at Oran Park Raceway was back in 2004 when the then undefeated Joel Spychala was brought to his first and only defeat of that year by Victorian Greg Woodrow in what was a spectacular battle.

There is no doubt that close racing will ensue throughout this weekend's round of the championship as current championship point standings leader Daniel Lewis and round one dominator Leigh Burges fight it out..........Read Full Release

NSW FF 1600 CHAMPIONSHIP PICKS UP THE PACE AT WAKEFIELD PARK

The return of Queenslander Kyle Wood lifted the benchmark well and truly in the 2009 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship when he duplicated the opening round domination of Anglo Australian Motorsport driver Leigh Burges during last weekend's second round at Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway.

After more than two years on the sidelines, Wood, who was a regular top five contender in the 2006 NSW Championship, returned to the fold with the Redback Motorsport team driving their #22 RF98 Van Diemen and he certainly showed everyone the way around the 2.2km Wakefield Park circuit from qualifying right through to the third and final race of the weekend.

Wood was quickest from the beginning of the weekend when he paced the field on Saturday morning in qualifying by topping the time sheets with a best lap of 1:03.0402 ahead of fellow Queenslander Brendon Nelson, who was making his debut in the NSW Championship with the Anglo Australian Motorsport team, and third quickest was NSW Championship leader and round one dominator Leigh Burges ..........Read Full Release

WOOD MAKES A TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO THE CIRCUIT

You simply couldn't have scripted it better for Kyle Wood, who after nearly two and a half years out of the driver's seat, returned to the circuit over the weekend at Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway and dominated the second round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship.

The Queenslander reunited with the #22 RF98 Van Diemen, that is engineered and maintained by Redback Motorsport, and managed to come away from the weekend by dominating qualifying and taking out all three race wins to complete what was a total domination of the second round of NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship which left his rivals gobsmacked .....

LEWIS TAKES CONTROL OF THE NSW FORMULA FORD 1600 CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

Successive second podium finishes have advanced Daniel Lewis into the lead of the NSW formula Ford 1500 Championship for the first time in 2009.

Last year's NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship "Rookie of the Year" returned to his driving seat of his #52 RF02 Van Diemen for the second round last weekend at Wakefield Park Raceway in Goulburn after being forced to lease a car from the Anglo Australian Motorsport team for the last month's opening round at Eastern Creek Raceway due to damaging the rear end of his RF02 Van Diemen during practice earlier in the weekend ....... NSW FORMULA FORD 1600 CHAMPIONSHIP HOSTILITIES TO RESUME THIS WEEKEND AT WAKEFIELD PARK RACEWAY

After an exciting opening round, the 2009 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship is set to return to action this weekend (April 18 and 19) with the running of the second round at Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway

All eyes will be on current NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship leader Leigh Burges after the Anglo Australian Motorsport driver dominated the opening round by taking out qualifying and all three races in a comfortable fashion.
