August 27, 2008 Morcom Scores First Formula Ford Win

Image by John Morris - MPix

Teenager Nathan Morcom has continued his impressive debut year in Formula Ford by registering his first race win in the category last weekend at the fifth and penultimate round of the Victorian Formula Ford 1600 Championship at Winton Motor Raceway.
Morcom's first race win came during the opening race when he started from the front row after qualifying in second, and the 16-year-old Anglo Australian Motorsport driver caught and passed pole sitter and V8 Supercar driver Taz Douglas, who has over three years of Formula Ford experience at both a State and national level, during the middle stages of the six lap race and went on to score a solid victory aboard his #71 Rondo Building Services backed Comtec Spirit WL08. ......  Read Full Release

August 21, 2008 Simpson and Tweedie Share Wakefield Park Wins, but Simpson Emerges on Top for Round Success

Tom Tweedie & Leigh Burgess leading the way

Image by John Morris - MPix

The cream of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship rose to the top yet again in Ryan Simpson and Tom Tweedie last weekend at Wakefield Park Raceway during the fifth and penultimate round of the championship.
It was Simpson that qualified on pole position, and it was a spin during the opening race that cost him yet another win and he eventually finished back in third, but he managed to bounce back to winning form by taking our both race two and three and extending his lead in the championship points standings in the process. Simpson's pace around the 2.2km Wakefield Park circuit was clearly evident over the course of the weekend as he came very close to eclipsing the existing Formula Ford 1600 lap record that was set by now V8 Supercar star Jamie Whincup back in 2002 ......... August 21, 2008 No Walk in the Park for Icon Motorsport at Wakefield Park

The results of the Icon Motorsport team drivers, Adam Lucas and Derryn Harrison, during the fifth and penultimate round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship at Wakefield Park Raceway certainly didn't reflect the pace they had shown over the course of the weekend.
Both Lucas and Harrison showed that they had the pace to be Top 5 runners at the weekend but unfortunately it wasn't to be.
In fact, during the third and final race Lucas, driving the #14 Vodafone Mobile Advertising backed Spectrum 06B, was up to third place during the middle stages of the race only to be spun out due to contact from a driver behind him. Despite regathering and returning to the circuit, Lucas had his hopes of a podium finish dashed and eventually finished in sixth.
Race one resulted in Lucas working his way up to seventh place after qualifying down in ninth due to understeer problems, and during race two he spun out on his own while he sat inside the Top 5 but worked his way back to finish sixth ..........  Read Full Release
August 19, 2008 Simpson Moves Closer to 2008 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship

Image by John Morris - MPix

With one round left of the 2008 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship, Ryan Simpson has all but clinched the championship after taking out victory in round five, held over the weekend at Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway.
Back in April the Anglo Australian Motorsport driver made his Formula Ford debut during the opening round of the NSW Championship and it saw him qualify on pole position and win all three races, and on his return to the circuit, he was close to duplicating that performance, but it didn't happen .......

Tweedie Returns to Victory Lane and Maintains Second Place in NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship

Image by John Morris - MPix

After qualifying second and winning the opening race during the fifth and penultimate round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship it looked as though Tom Tweedie was on track to take out his first round win of the year, but unfortunately it wasn't to be.
Both race two and three didn't turn out the best, as during the second race Tweedie and Leigh Burgess came together that saw Tweedie spin and become airborne and that caused suspension and brakes damage, but he still finished the race, although back in ninth.
Tweedie was on a charge through the field in the third and final race only to be slowed by gearbox woes, which quite possibly could have been caused by his race two accident, and once again finished ninth .......   Read Full Release

August 19, 2008 Morcom clinches Podium Result

Image by John Morris - MPix

It has been a result that he has sought after all year long during his rookie year in the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship, and over the weekend during the fifth and penultimate round at Wakefield Park Raceway, teenage Anglo Australian Motorsport driver nathan Morcom managed to achieve podium success.
So far this year, Morcom has finished on the podium on may occasions in both race one and two, but with the way the NSW Championship is structure the third and final race is regarded as the trophy race. At Wakefield Park Morcom charged his way into a third place finish on the podium in the third and final race, after starting from grid position seven........ Read Full Release

August 13, 2008 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship Travels Down to Wakefield Park Raceway this Weekend

Image by John Morris - MPix

So far this year in the Formula Ford ranks it's been nothing other than a Ryan Simpson and Tom Tweedie show, but as the fifth round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship heads down to Wakefield Park Raceway in Goulburn this weekend (August 26 - 27) their rivals are hoping to deny the pair of more success.
Anglo Australian Motorsport team drivers, Simpson and Tweedie, have been beating their rivals by comfortable margins, as throughout the championship so far there's only been one spot left for the other drivers in the field to try and land on the podium, third spot...........  Read Full Release

July 31, 2008 Same Circuit, Same Result in Latest NSW FF1600 Championship Round

Image by John Morris - MPix

Just as it was a month ago at the third round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship, current championship leader Ryan Simpson, Tom Tweedie and Daniel Lewis graced the podium for the fourth round at Oran Park Raceway over the weekend.
It was Anglo Australian Motorsport team-mates, Simpson and Tweedie, that once again showed their class throughout the weekend and they were 1 - 2 in qualifying and all three races, with Tweedie unable to deny Simpson his third clean sweep of the year.
Qualifying saw Simpson top the time sheets again with a best lap of 1:12.9746 around the 1.62km circuit and he ended up ahead of Tweedie (1:13.2404), teenager Nathan Morcom (1:13.7553), Lewis (1:14.49223) and with Adam Lucas (1:14.7386) completing the top 5 ........  Read Full Release

Image by John Morris - MPix

Ryan Simpson is another step closer to taking out the 2008 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship over the weekend at Oran Park Raceway when he clinched victory in the fourth round.
For the third occasion this year, adding to his efforts at Wakefield Park Raceway in round one and Oran Park Raceway last round, Simpson went through the weekend undefeated when he topped the time sheets in qualifying and then went on to take out all three race wins. The third and final race was run under wet conditions and due to a downpour the race was changed to the South circuit ......

July 29, 2008 Second on the Podium Again for Tweedie

Image by John Morris - MPix

With the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship winding down, Tom Tweedie was eager to break through for a maiden round victory when the fourth round was fought out last weekend at Oran Park Raceway on the Grand Prix long circuit.
After showing great speed throughout Friday's practice sessions, Tweedie was unable to repeat that form in qualifying on Saturday morning when he was second behind Anglo Australian Motorsport teammate Ryan Simpson also finishing in second place in all three races behind Simpson as well but felt his car set-up had changed and was not quite 100% and his team worked on trying to recapture Friday's form ........ June 27, 2008 Simpson and Tweedie Continue to Dominate, while Newcomers Shine

Image by John Morris - MPix

Although the Anglo Australian Motorsport pair of Ryan Simpson and Tom Tweedie continued their reign during last weekend's third round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship at Oran Park Raceway, there were a number of newcomers that shone brightly throughout the weekend with some impressive drives.
Over the three races Simpson managed to come through for victory in all of them, and completed his clean sweep of the round by taking the top sport in qualifying earlier on Saturday morning. Simpson's closest rival so far this year, Tweedie, once again proved Simpson's only real concern around the 2.62km Oran Park circuit, but it still wasn't enough to deny him of a clean sweep of the weekend's round proceeding. After his third win in succession has now built up a 36 point buffer over his nearest rival, Tweedie, in the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship standings, and Simpson is just after the half way mark of the championship proving that he will take some beating......... June 23, 2008 A Close Second for Tweedie Again

Image by John Morris - MPix

Second place is certainly starting to lose its thrill with Tom Tweedie after he once again finished in second place in the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship this time at Oran Park Raceway last weekend.
Over the weekend Tweedie was a close second to Anglo Australian Motorsport team-mate Ryan Simpson in both qualifying and the opening race on Saturday, but on Sunday an uncharacteristic spin during the second race on the last lap and a good recovery saw him finish in fourth spot, but he bounced back in the third race to finish in a close second place again, driving the #19 Anglo Australian Motorsport Comtec Spirit WL07 ......... June 16, 2008 The Battle of Oran Park in NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship

As history has proven in recent years there has been no shortage of action when the third round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship is fought out at Oran Park Raceway, near Narellan NSW, this weekend (June 21-22).
The 2.62km Oran Park Raceway circuit always throws up plenty of curves and it also has seen numerous drivers over the years break through for maiden race wins, as well as cause a few problems for some with the demanding layout, and this weekend should be no different.
In recent years Oran Park has seen the likes of ex-Formula Ford drivers Greg Woodrow (retired) and Nick Lowe (Aussie Racing Cars) record their first victories in the NSW Championship. In 1994 Australian Formula One driver Mark Webber was able to score his first win in the NSW Formula Ford Championship at the circuit .........

The second round of the 2008 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship last weekend at Sydney's Eastern Creek Raceway was taken out by Anglo Australian Motorsport team driver Ryan Simpson but it was achieved after a hard fought battle with team-mate Tom Tweedie.
Over the course of the weekend little separated Simpson and Tweedie as Simpson took two out of the three race wins and Tweedie won the other, and aside from Simpson and Tweedie, one of the standout drives of the weekend came from former Australian Touring Car racer in veteran John Smith who drove one of the oldest cars in the field, a Reynard FF89 owned by Don Holland, to third place.......
